|
| The stepwise sampling plan is to be applied as follows: |
| 1. According to the number of packages in the lot of packages as set out in the first column of the table, apply the sampling plan steps applicable to that given number of packages. Starting from Step 1 in the second column of the table, take the sample size indicated in the third column of the table and determine the number of non‑standard packages in the sample. If the number of non‑standard packages in the sample of packages does not exceed the number of non‑standard packages allowed at that step (as set out in the fourth column of the table), the lot of packages meets the condition under regulation 3(1)(a) and section 19(6)(a)(ii) of the Act. |
| 2. Should the number of non‑standard packages at Step 1 exceed the allowed number at that step, more samples are to be inspected up to the indicated cumulative sample sizes* at each of the next steps. If the number of non‑standard packages in the cumulative sample size inspected at any of the next steps does not exceed the number of non‑standard packages allowed for that step, the lot of packages meets the condition under regulation 3(1)(a) and section 19(6)(a)(ii) of the Act. |
3. The lot of packages is rejected if, in the final step applicable to that lot of packages, the number of non-standard packages in the cumulative sample size exceeds the number of non-standard packages allowed for that step. | | | A sample of 35 packages is taken from a lot of 120 packages (Step 1) and one non‑standard package is discovered. A further 15 packages are taken from the lot, for a cumulative sample size of 50 packages (Step 2). If the number of non‑standard packages remains at one, the lot of 120 packages meets the condition under regulation 3(1)(a) and section 19(6)(a)(ii) of the Act. |
|
| | | The cumulative sample size refers to the total number of packages to be inspected at each step, inclusive of the packages inspected from previous steps, if any. |
