Pingat Jasa Berani
(The Medal of Bravery)
Rules 2025
The President is pleased to approve the institution of a medal to be styled “Pingat Jasa Berani (The Medal of Bravery)”, the award of which is governed by the following Rules:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Rules are the Pingat Jasa Berani (The Medal of Bravery) Rules 2025 and come into operation on 9 August 2025.
Definitions
2.  In these Rules —
“Bar” means a Bar awarded under rule 7(1);
“Medal” means the Medal of Bravery instituted and governed by these Rules.
Designation of Medal
3.  The Medal is designated and styled the Pingat Jasa Berani (the Medal of Bravery).
Eligibility for Medal
4.  The Medal may be awarded to any person for acts of exemplary bravery in hazardous circumstances.
Description of Medal
5.—(1)  The Medal is silver-gilt.
(2)  The obverse side of the Medal features —
(a)a diagonal Maltese cross combined with a four‑pointed star, arranged in a compass rose design superimposed on 2 crossed swords;
(b)in its centre, a shield bearing a crescent and 5 stars positioned over another pair of crossed swords; and
(c)at the base, a scroll bearing the words “PINGAT JASA BERANI”.
(3)  The reverse side of the Medal features the National Coat of Arms.
(4)  The Medal has the design set out in the Schedule.
Wearing of Medal
6.—(1)  The Medal is to be worn on the left side of the outer garment suspended by a ribbon.
(2)  The ribbon is white with a red edging and a purple centre band.
Modification of Medal
7.—(1)  Where an act deserving of the award of the Medal is performed by a person to whom the Medal has already been awarded, the act may be recognised by the award of a Bar to the Medal.
(2)  The Bar is silver-gilt and attached to the ribbon by which the Medal is suspended.
(3)  There is no limit to the number of Bars that may be awarded to a holder of the Medal.
(4)  For each Bar awarded, a small star in silver-gilt may be added to the ribbon when worn alone.
Publication and register of persons awarded Medal or Bar
8.  The names of the persons to whom the Medal or a Bar is awarded must be published in the Gazette and a register of those names must be kept in the office of the Prime Minister.
Forfeiture of Medal and Bar
9.  The President may forfeit any Medal and Bar (if any) awarded to any person under these Rules if the person is convicted of a criminal offence or is guilty of misconduct or disloyalty to Singapore.
