3.—(1) The Medal may be awarded to any person who, whilst being a member of the Singapore Armed Forces, was engaged in service in an area outside Singapore which satisfies one or more of the following conditions:| (a) | service of a continuous period of 96 hours or more in any operation against the enemy; | | (b) | service of an aggregate of 30 days or more within a period of 12 months when employed in support of any formation, unit or sub-unit of any force engaged in any operation against the enemy; | | (c) | service of an aggregate period of 14 days or more within a period of 180 days when engaged in any operation involving the keeping of peace, restoring of law and order, or provision of humanitarian aid or rescue, or in any relief operation, in support of any foreign government. |
(2) Service rendered by a member of the Singapore Armed Forces whilst undergoing a training course shall not qualify as service for the award of the Medal, unless —| (a) | the member has provided any assistance or service in any operation specified in paragraph (1)(c); and | | (b) | such assistance or service goes beyond the requirements of the training course. |

| (3) If the service in respect of which a person is awarded the Medal, a Bar or a Bar (Enhanced) involved hostile action or considerable personal risk, a Star shall be awarded in addition to the Medal, Bar or Bar (Enhanced). |
| (4) A person to whom the Medal has been awarded for his participation in any operation shall be awarded a Bar if he further qualifies for the award of the Medal through his participation in a different operation. |
(5) A person to whom the Medal or a Bar or Bar (Enhanced) has been awarded for his participation in any operation shall be awarded a Bar (Enhanced) for his further participation in that operation, if —| (a) | he further qualifies for the award of the Medal for his further participation; and | | (b) | either of the following applies:| (i) | he satisfies the condition specified in paragraph (1)(c), and his further participation commenced at least 180 days after the end of his last tour of duty in that operation for which he was awarded the Medal, Bar or Bar (Enhanced); or | | (ii) | he renders service for a continuous period of 180 days or more in that operation. |

(6) A person to whom a Bar (Enhanced) has been awarded shall qualify under paragraph (5) for the award of another Bar (Enhanced) in respect of —| (a) | each separate instance of further participation under paragraph (5)(b)(i); and | | (b) | each separate instance of service under paragraph (5)(b)(ii). |
