Long Service And Good Conduct Medal
Rules 2014
The President is pleased to approve the institution of a medal to be styled “The Singapore Armed Forces Long Service and Good Conduct (35 Years) Medal”, the award of which shall be governed by the following Rules:
PART I
Preliminary
Citation and commencement
1.  These Rules may be cited as the Singapore Armed Forces Long Service And Good Conduct Medal Rules 2014 and shall come into operation on 1st April 2014.
Definitions
2.  In these Rules —
“35 Years Medal” means the Medal referred to in rule 3(1);
“Service Chief” means the Chief of Air Force, the Chief of Army or the Chief of Navy;
“serviceman” means a uniformed member of the Singapore Armed Forces.
PART II
35 years medal
Designation of 35 Years Medal
3.—(1)  A medal to be designated and styled the Singapore Armed Forces Long Service and Good Conduct (35 Years) Medal may be awarded to any serviceman in regular service, operationally ready national service or volunteer service who has completed 35 years of service in recognition of his long service and good conduct in the Singapore Armed Forces.
(2)  The period of full‑time national service completed by the serviceman shall be included in the computation of service.
(3)  A Clasp may be awarded to a recipient of the 35 Years Medal on his completing a further 5 years of service in the Singapore Armed Forces.
(4)  For each Clasp awarded under paragraph (3), a small gold star shall be added to the ribbon when worn alone.
Description of 35 Years Medal
4.—(1)  The 35 Years Medal —
(a)shall be diamond‑shaped and gold in colour;
(b)shall have the Singapore Armed Forces Crest on the obverse side; and
(c)shall bear the inscription “LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT” on the reverse side.
(2)  The Clasp for the 35 Years Medal shall be a bar which is gold in colour and 35 millimetres in length and 10 millimetres in width, and engraved with the words “FORTY YEARS”.
Design of 35 Years Medal
5.  The 35 Years Medal shall be of the design set out in the Schedule.
Name to be inscribed on 35 Years Medal
6.  The name of the person to whom the 35 Years Medal is awarded shall be inscribed on the back of the Medal.
Wearing of 35 Years Medal
7.—(1)  The 35 Years Medal shall be worn on the left side of the outer garment suspended by a turquoise ribbon 35 millimetres in width and 50 millimetres in length.
(2)  The ribbon shall have in the centre 3 white stripes each measuring 3 millimetres in width.
PART III
Miscellaneous
Medal to be awarded by Director of Manpower
8.  The 35 Years Medal and Clasp shall be awarded by the Director of Manpower, Ministry of Defence.
Publication of awards, etc.
9.  The names of the persons to whom the 35 Years Medal or Clasp is awarded shall be published in Formation or Unit orders and a register of such names shall be kept in the Ministry of Defence.
Forfeiture of Medal
10.—(1)  The Chief of Defence Force or a Service Chief may forfeit any 35 Years Medal or Clasp awarded to any person under these Rules if the person —
(a)is convicted by a court in Singapore of any criminal offence;
(b)is dismissed or removed from the Singapore Armed Forces on disciplinary grounds; or
(c)is guilty of misconduct or disloyalty to Singapore.
(2)  Any 35 Years Medal or Clasp so forfeited may be restored by the Chief of Defence Force or a Service Chief.
