4.—(1) An eligible person shall qualify for the award of the Medal if he has rendered —| (a) | for a continuous period of at least 5 years —| (i) | regular service as an officer or a serviceman in the Singapore Civil Defence Force; | | (ii) | part-time service as an auxiliary member in the Singapore Civil Defence Force; or | | (iii) | any combination of the form of services listed in sub-paragraphs (i) and (ii); or |
| | (b) | full-time national service under the Enlistment Act (Cap. 93) for a continuous period of 2 years followed immediately by —| (i) | service as listed in sub-paragraph (a) (i) or (ii) for a continuous period of 3 years; | | (ii) | reserve service for a continuous period of 3 years; or | | (iii) | any combination of the length of service or reserve service referred to in sub-paragraphs (a) and (b) (ii) for a continuous period of 3 years, |
| in the Singapore Civil Defence Force. |

| (2) In computing the period of service under paragraph (1), any form of service in the Singapore Armed Forces or the Singapore Police Service preceding service in the Singapore Civil Defence Force shall be treated as if it is such service in the Singapore Civil Defence Force. |
(3) A period shall be treated as continuous for the purposes of paragraph (1) notwithstanding —| (a) | a break of service for one day for the purpose of awarding a pension or gratuity under the Pensions Regulations set out in the First Schedule to the Pensions Act (Cap. 225); | | (b) | any period of leave without pay, except that such period of leave shall not be counted towards the minimum requirement; | | (c) | any period of disruption from full-time service, except that such period of disruption shall not be counted towards the minimum requirement; or | | (d) | any transfer of service from one of the forces, services, bodies and organisations to another either within or between the Singapore Civil Defence Force, the Singapore Police Service and the Singapore Armed Forces where such transfer is without a break of service. |
