(Temporary Exemption)
Order 2025
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 87(3) of the Guns, Explosives and Weapons Control Act 2021, the Minister for Home Affairs makes the following Order:
Citation and commencement
1.  This Order is the Guns, Explosives and Weapons Control (Temporary Exemption) Order 2025 and comes into operation on 1 July 2025.
Exemption for persons under transitional arrangements
2.—(1)  A person who is authorised under paragraph 8 of the Third Schedule to the Act —
(a)to dispose of any gun, major part of a gun, or gun accessory;
(b)to dispose of any explosive precursor; or
(c)to dispose of any weapon or noxious substance,
is exempt from section 12, 23 or 30 of the Act (as the case may be) for so long as the person is so authorised.
(2)  A person who is authorised under paragraph 9 of the Third Schedule to the Act —
(a)to convey any gun, major part of a gun, or gun accessory;
(b)to convey any explosive or explosive precursor; or
(c)to convey any weapon,
is exempt from section 15, 25 or 32 of the Act (as the case may be) for so long as the person is so authorised.
(3)  A person who is authorised under paragraph 10 of the Third Schedule to the Act to manufacture or repair, or take part in the manufacture or repair of, any weapon is exempt from section 30 of the Act for so long as the person is so authorised.
(4)  A person who is authorised under paragraph 10 of the Third Schedule to the Act to supply any weapon is exempt from section 32 of the Act for so long as the person is so authorised.
(5)  A person who is authorised under paragraph 11 of the Third Schedule to the Act to have possession of any weapon is exempt from section 32 of the Act for so long as the person is so authorised.
Acquiring weapon during weapons supplier transitional period
3.—(1)  A person is exempt from section 33(2) of the Act for acquiring, or taking part in the acquisition of, any non‑arms weapon from a supplier who is, at the time of the supply, exempt under paragraph 2(4) from section 32 of the Act.
(2)  In this paragraph, “non‑arms weapon” means any weapon that is not any of the following:
(a)a bayonet, sword or dagger;
(b)a spear or spearhead;
(c)an arrow with any of the following points:
(i)a broadhead tip;
(ii)a field arrow tip;
(iii)a blunt arrow tip;
(iv)a grabbing arrow tip;
(v)a fishing arrow tip;
(d)an arbalest;
(e)a device (commonly called a crossbow) consisting of a bow fitted transversely on a stock that has a groove or barrel, designed to direct an arrow or a bolt;
(f)a bow with a draw weight of more than 27.215 kilograms.
