2.—(1) For the purposes of paragraph (b) of the definition of “prescribed civil defence emergency device” in section 2 of the Act, a hazardous material detector, being a device that performs one or both of the following functions, is a prescribed device for the detection or monitoring of a civil defence emergency:| (a) | detecting the presence of one or more hazardous materials; | | (b) | monitoring the level of one or more hazardous materials. |
(2) In this regulation, “hazardous material” means any substance or article that —| (a) | may cause destruction of or damage to property; | | (b) | may cause loss of life or injury or distress to persons; or | | (c) | in any way endangers the safety of the public in Singapore or in any part of Singapore. |
