Pursuant to section 17(5) of the Currency Act, it is hereby notified for general information that the denominations and characteristics of the currency notes to be issued on 29th July 2004 by the Monetary Authority of Singapore are as shown in the Schedule.

The front design features the portrait of Singapore’s first President, the late Encik Yusof bin Ishak. The word “SINGAPORE” is printed on the bottom centre portion. The Singapore Arms is positioned on the upper left-hand corner while the denomination numeral “2” is located at the upper middle and bottom right-hand corner. The silver coloured octagonal optical variable device showing colourful images of the denomination numeral “2”, the MAS logo and the Singapore Lion symbol is located above the words “THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER”. The signature and seal of Mr Lee Hsien Loong, Chairman, Monetary Authority of Singapore, are below the words “TWO DOLLARS”. The latent image bearing the images of the MAS logo and the Singapore Lion symbol is at the lower centre of the note. A Singapore Lion symbol is located at the left-hand side of the word “SINGAPORE”. One set of the asymmetrical serial number appears horizontal on the left-hand side while the other set appears vertical on the right-hand side.
The back design features a group of pupils interacting with a teacher in a “Borderless” classroom. 3 prominent institutions of learning are seen in the background below the word “SINGAPORE”, printed on the top centre portion of the note. The Singapore Lion symbol is at the lower left of the Portrait watermark and is in perfect registration with that on the front. The denomination numeral “2” is located at the top left-hand corner and to the left of the Singapore Lion symbol. The word “EDUCATION” is located at the bottom centre of the note.

The note has one windowed machine-readable thread which is interwoven in the paper running vertically down the back of the note. A watermark of the President’s portrait is incorporated on the left-hand side of the front of the note. The watermark is not overprinted on both the front and back. A highlight watermark which corresponds with the Braille pattern at the top right-hand corner of the front design is located at the bottom of the Portrait watermark.

In the foreground of the design lies a bed of Singapore’s national flower, the Vanda Miss Joaquim. The word “SINGAPORE” is located at the top centre portion of the note. The Singapore Lion symbol is at the lower left of the Portrait watermark and is in perfect registration with that on the front. The denomination numeral “5” is located at the top left-hand corner and to the left of the Singapore Lion symbol. The words “GARDEN CITY” are located below the picture of the tembusu tree.

The back design features 4 ethnic musical instruments, the Chinese Pipa, Malay Kompang, Indian Veena and Classical Violin, as well as 2 local artworks entitled “Gibbons” and “Drying Salted Fish”, respectively. The word “SINGAPORE” is located at the top centre portion of the note. The Singapore Lion symbol is at the lower left of the Portrait watermark and is in perfect registration with that on the front. The denomination numeral “50” is located at the top left-hand corner and to the left of the Singapore Lion symbol. The word “ARTS” is located below the artwork “Drying Salted Fish”.
