| Scheut Missions Ordinance 1938 |

| An Ordinance to incorporate the Procureur in the Straits Settlements of the Scheut Missions. |

| Whereas an institute known as Missions Scheut was founded in the year 1862 in the Kingdom of Belgium for the purpose of the propagation of religion and whereas the said institution is now situated at Scheut, Brussels in the Kingdom of Belgium aforesaid: |
| And whereas the agent of the aforesaid Missions Scheut is the Reverend Richard Quintens in whose name the lands described in the First Schedule were purchased for the benefit of the aforesaid Missions Scheut out of funds belonging to the Mission: |
| And whereas the former agent of the aforesaid Missions Scheut was the Reverend Father Michael De Meester who has left the Colony and died on 22 March 1934 in Manila, Philippine Islands and the lands described in the Second Schedule were purchased in the name of the said Reverend Father Michael De Meester out of funds belonging to the Mission: |
| And whereas it is expedient for conveyancing and other purposes and for the purpose of vesting the said properties that the said Richard Quintens and his successors in the office as such Procureur as aforesaid should be incorporated: |
| It is hereby enacted by the Governor of the Straits Settlements with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof as follows: |
| Short title |
| 1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Scheut Missions Ordinance 1938. |
| The agent or Procureur of the Missions Scheut to be a body corporate |
| Powers of the Corporation relating to properties |
| 3. The Corporation may acquire, purchase, take, hold and enjoy movable and immovable property of every description and may sell, convey and assign, surrender and yield up, mortgage, demise, re‑assign, transfer or otherwise dispose of any movable or immovable property vested in the Corporation upon such terms as to the Corporation seem fit and may sue and be sued by such name of the Procureur in the Straits Settlements of the Scheut Missions in all Courts of Justice. |

| 4. Subject to section 7 the lands and premises described in the Schedules are hereby vested in the Corporation for the estate and interest for which the same are held. |
| Qualification of agent before acting |
5.—(1) No person other than the said Richard Quintens shall be deemed to be duly qualified as aforesaid unless and until he has first, with the approval of the Minister signified under his hand and seal, caused the power of attorney or other instrument constituting him Procureur to be duly filed in the Registry of the Supreme Court at Singapore pursuant to section 48 of the Conveyancing and Law of Property Act 1886 and unless and until a notification of such filing has appeared in the Gazette.

6.—(1) No deed, document or other instrument sealed with the seal of the Corporation shall be deemed to be duly sealed unless such seal has been affixed in the presence of the said Richard Quintens or his attorney duly authorised by a power of attorney deposited under section 48 of the Conveyancing and Law of Property Act 1886 or in the presence of his successor for the time being in his said office of Procureur and duly qualified as aforesaid and unless such deed, document or other instrument is signed by the said Richard Quintens or his attorney or by his successor or the attorney of such successor as aforesaid.

| Saving of Government and other rights |
| 7. Nothing in this Ordinance shall affect the rights of the Government, or of any bodies politic or corporate, or of any other persons except such as are mentioned in this Ordinance, and those claiming by, from or under them. [7/97] |
| FIRST SCHEDULE |
| 1. All that piece of land situate in the District of Ulu Pandan in the Island of Singapore estimated according to Government Resurvey to contain an area of 1,013.6 m2 and marked on the Government Resurvey Map as Lot No. 24196 of Mukim IV being part of the land comprised in Statutory Land Grant No. 32423. |
| 2. All that piece of land situate in the District of Ulu Pandan in the Island of Singapore containing an area of 831.5 m2 being Lot No. 24199 of Mukim IV and forming part of the land comprised in Grant No. 3. |
| 3. All those 3 pieces of land situate in the District of Geylang in the Island of Singapore marked on the Government Resurvey Map as Lots Nos. 10612 10613 10614 of Mukim XXV and estimated according to Government Resurvey to contain areas of 1,617.1 m2, 1,599.6 m2, 1,580.6 m2, respectively which said 3 pieces of land form portions of Grant No. 29. |

All that piece of land situate in the District of Claymore in the Island of Singapore estimated to contain an area of 674.4 m2 or thereabouts as described and coloured pink in the plan annexed to an Indenture of Statutory Mortgage dated 10 February 1931 and made between Lim Ah Woo of the one part and Woong Hong Chin and Woon Hong Hin of the other part (Registered in Volume 795 No. 44) and therein marked as part of Government Resurvey Lot No. 131 Town Subdivision XX which said piece of land is now estimated according to recent Government Resurvey to contain an area of 679.7 m2 and is marked Lot No. 1311 of Town Subdivision being part of land in Government Grant No. 2. Together with the 4 houses erected thereon and known as Nos. 19, 21, 23 and 25 Killiney Road, Singapore. |
| 5. All that piece of land situate in the District of Claymore in the Island of Singapore estimated according to Government Resurvey to contain an area of 435.8 m2 and marked on the Government Resurvey Map as Lot No. 242 of Town Subdivision XXI which said piece of land was formerly known as Lot No. 277 of Grant No. 2 less a portion thereof acquired by the Municipal Commissioners of the Town of Singapore containing an area of 35.4 m2 and marked on the Government Resurvey Map as Lot No. 241 of Town Subdivision XXI and which said piece of land was also together with Lot No. 242 of Town Subdivision XXI marked on the Government Resurvey Map as Lot No. 24 of Town Subdivision XXI. |
| 6. All that piece of land situate in the District of Claymore in the Island of Singapore estimated according to Government Resurvey to contain an area of 402.1 m2 and marked on the Government Resurvey Map as Lot No. 252 of Town Subdivision XXI which said piece of land together with that portion of land containing an area of 28.0 m2 acquired by the Municipal Commissioners of the Town of Singapore and marked in the Government Resurvey Map as Lot No. 251 of Town Subdivision XXI was formerly marked on the Government Resurvey Map as Lot No. 25 of Town Subdivision XXI and is described in the plan drawn on an Indenture of Lease (of Lot No. 276) made on 17 January 1874 between Thomas Oxley of the one part and Tang of the other part (Registered in Volume X No. 60) and which said piece of land also forms part of the land comprised in Government Grant No. 2 dated 28 March 1845 and made between East India Co., of the one part and Thomas Oxley of the other part. Together with the house erected thereon and known as No. 90 (formerly known as 45) Somerset Road, Singapore and all other buildings thereon erected. |
| 7. All that piece of land situate in the District of Claymore in the Island of Singapore containing according to the Government Resurvey an area of 1,508.2 m2 and marked in the Government Resurvey Map as Lot No. 232 of Town Subdivision XXI which said piece of land together with that portion of land containing an area of 118.1 m2 acquired by the Municipal Commissioners of the Town of Singapore and marked on the Government Resurvey Map as Lot No. 231 of Town Subdivision XXI was formerly marked in the Government Resurvey Map as Lot No. 23 of Town Subdivision XXI and was formerly known as Lease Lot No. 271/273 of Grant No. 2 as described in the plan drawn on an Indenture dated 16 November 1873 (Registered in Volume CDLI No. 28) and made between Thomas Oxley of the one part and Meena of the other part. Together with the house erected thereon and known as No. 100 (formerly known as No. 48) Somerset Road, Singapore. |

| 8. All that piece of land situate in the District of Tanglin in the Island of Singapore estimated according to Government Resurvey to contain an area of 7,881.5 m2 and marked on the Government Resurvey Map as being Lot No. 55 of Town Subdivision XXV part of the land comprised in East India Company’s Grant No. 17 dated 31 July 1848 in favour of Gilbert Angus. Together with the messuage or dwelling house known as Municipal No. 24 (formerly No. 6) Nassim Road, Singapore. |
